Good hair starts with good care. ♡
Whether you're wearing our Maui Curl, Capri Curl, or Raw Hair Bundles, the way you prep, style, and maintain your hair makes all the difference.
Every texture has different needs. Our virgin curly textures love moisture and curl definition, while our raw hair performs best with minimal, lightweight products and gentle styling.
Consider this your official It Girl Hair Care Guide.
VIRGIN CURLY HAIR
Maui Curl + Capri Curl
Our Maui and Capri textures are made for soft, full, defined curls. Like naturally curly hair, these textures thrive with moisture, gentle detangling, and the right styling products.
Before Installation
1. Soak Your Bundles
Before opening your bundles, fully submerge each bundle in water and allow it to soak for approximately 5 minutes.
2. Co-Wash + Condition
Co-wash using a moisturizing, detangling conditioner or mask.
Our recommendations:
-
SheaMoisture Manuka Honey & Yogurt Hydrate + Repair Mask
-
Pantene Miracle Rescue Deep Repair Conditioner
-
Matrix Food For Soft Detangling Hydrating Conditioner
Gently work the conditioner through the hair to hydrate, soften, and prepare the curls for detangling.
3. Detangle BEFORE Opening the Weft
This step is important!
While the bundle is still bundled, slowly and gently brush through the hair until fully detangled.
Never open or unravel your weft while the hair is dry and unprepped. Always hydrate and detangle first.
Once detangled, rinse thoroughly until there is no product residue remaining.
Optional: Seal Your Wefts
Want a little extra protection against shedding?
Once your hair and wefts are completely dry, apply Fray Check twice to each side of the weft and allow it to dry completely before installation.
After Installation: Detangle + Define
Always wet the hair with water before detangling.
Work in sections, starting at the ends and gradually working your way toward the top. Never start at the weft and force your brush downward through tangles.
For best results, we recommend:
(1) Paddle/Un-brush → (2) Denman Brush
Do not use a wide-tooth comb to detangle your curls.
Once detangled, it's time to bring those curls to life.
For soft, defined curls, we recommend:
-
IGH Curl Defining Styling Foam (most recommended)
-
Miss Jessie's Pillow Soft Curls — use a tiny amount; a little goes a long way!
-
The Doux Mousse Def Texture Foam — a great alternative styling mousse.
IT GIRL TIP: Don't overload your curls with product. Too much product can create buildup and weigh down the natural curl pattern.
For best results, allow your curls to air dry completely.
If you're short on time, diffuse until the hair is approximately 70–80% dry, then allow it to finish air drying.
Never sleep on wet or damp hair. This can contribute to matting and tangling.
Curly Hair Nighttime Routine 🌙
Before bed:
-
Gather your curls into a loose pineapple.
-
Secure with a silk or satin scrunchie.
-
Cover with a silk or satin bonnet, making sure your ends are tucked inside and protected.
Keep your pineapple loose to avoid unnecessary pulling or stretching of the curls.
Morning Refresh
Remove your bonnet and scrunchie, release your pineapple, and shake out your curls.
Fluff and separate as needed. If a few sections need refreshing, lightly mist them with water and redefine only those areas.
The Virgin Curl Formula ♡
Water + Moisture + Gentle Detangling + Lightweight Definition = Happy Curls
RAW HAIR
Keep It Light. Keep It Luxurious.
Raw hair is the luxury girl of the hair world—and she doesn't need much. ♡
Because raw hair is minimally processed, the goal is to preserve its natural softness, movement, and versatility.
When it comes to raw hair, remember one thing:
Less is more.
Before Installation
1. Wash + Condition
Gently wash your raw bundles with a moisturizing shampoo, followed by a lightweight moisturizing conditioner.
Avoid loading the hair with heavy masks, oils, or treatments unless the hair truly needs them.
2. Detangle
While the hair is wet and conditioned, gently detangle starting at the ends and gradually work your way upward toward the wefts.
Never aggressively brush through tangles or start at the top and pull downward.
3. Rinse + Dry
Rinse thoroughly until all product has been removed.
Product residue can create buildup and leave your raw hair feeling heavy or dull.
Allow your bundles to air dry whenever possible.
After Installation: Keep Your Routine Simple
One of the biggest secrets to beautiful raw hair is not doing too much.
For everyday maintenance, keep your product use minimal.
If your hair needs a little extra shine or moisture, use a small amount of lightweight oil or lightweight sheen, focusing primarily on the mid-lengths and ends.
What to Avoid
Skip the heavy stuff.
Avoid:
-
Heavy oils
-
Heavy styling sprays
-
Oil sheen sprays
-
Spritz
-
Excessive holding products
-
Excessive product layering
These products can create buildup, weigh down your bundles, and take away from the natural movement that makes raw hair so beautiful.
Think: Lightweight. Minimal. Moisturized.
Styling Your Raw Hair With Heat
One of the best things about raw hair is its versatility. You can straighten it, curl it, wand it, or switch up your style—but heat protection is non-negotiable.
Always apply a heat protectant before using hot tools.
Some of our favorite heat protectants are from:
-
CHI
-
Milani
-
Kenra
Use heat protectant before flat ironing, curling, or applying any other direct heat.
Whenever possible, use the lowest effective temperature needed to achieve your style and avoid repeatedly passing hot tools over the same section.
IT GIRL RULE: Heat damage can permanently change the texture and integrity of your bundles. Protect the hair every time.
Raw Hair Nighttime Routine 🌙
Your nighttime routine is one of the easiest ways to extend the life of your install.
Straight + Wavy Styles
Gently brush your hair and wrap it or loosely secure it using a silk or satin scrunchie.
Curled Styles
Preserve your curls overnight with a loose pineapple, pin curls, flexi rods, or another heatless styling method.
Always cover your hair with a silk or satin bonnet, making sure the lengths and ends are protected.
And just like our curly textures:
Never sleep on wet or damp bundles.
Make sure your hair is completely dry before going to bed to help prevent unnecessary matting and tangling.
Morning Refresh
Take down your bonnet and gently brush, finger-comb, or shake your hair back into place depending on your style.
If your ends need a little love, apply a tiny amount of lightweight oil or sheen.
That's it. Your raw hair shouldn't require a complete restyle every morning.
